Delegate Preparation

ReadiMUN 2019 is suitable for beginner and experienced delegates alike with the Security Council, Commonwealth and Advanced Crisis being more suitable for more experienced delegates. We would therefore appreciate a high level of commitment from delegates whilst in committees and for you to have researched your topics and your country's foreign policy extensively. The research is crucial as it will determine how involved you will be for the whole weekend. The flow of debate is contingent on the exchange of views and knowledge on controversial topics. Delegates research plan can be broken down into the following:

Research the topic

To start off, you want a general knowledge on the topic. Wikipedia and the study guides can be  good starting points to get an overview of the topic. This would include identifying the key players in this issues and those who are most involved. Then, you research the past actions that's been taken.  BBC usually has good timelines including all the important events and major actions taken on a certain topic. You can also go on the committee page to read the resolutions on the topic. You need to understand the current situation to determine a future outlook on the issue. In order to reach that outlook, you need to look for critiques of the current situation and find recommendations to improve it. Looking at predictions and trends of where the topic is going can be helpful.

Research your country

It can be helpful to know general geographic, economic, political, social information about the country your representing. You also need to identify your allies and enemies. Most importantly you need to research your country's foreign policy with regard to the issue in hand.

Write your position paper

Delegates will be expected to write position papers outlining their country's policy on both of the topics to be discussed in their committee. This can be a great way of consolidating all your research and can be very helpful for your opening speech during the conference. Normally position papers should be word processed and around half a page of A4 per topic, written solely by the delegate. They should then be emailed to the delegates’ respective chairs. The deadline for position papers will be announced in the nearer to the date of the conference.

General Conference tips

We encourage all delegates to actively participate in the debate. We understand that speaking up for the first time in a conference can often be daunting but the earlier you do it the better. It is always worth making a point even if you are unsure about it. It only means you will be actively involved in the debate and at worst someone will correct you. Most importantly do not waste too much time writing down your speech and improving it, the debate flows quickly and you might not get the opportunity to state your point. You must always remember to stick to your country's profile and not digressing from it. Most importantly always remember that MUN is supposed to be fun! Make the most of your time in the debate and in the socials afterwards and be sure to enjoy yourself!

 ReadiMUN Rules and Procedure

We highly recommend that you familiarise yourself with the ReadiMUN rules and procedure before you attend our conference. Whilst the majority of MUN conferences follow the same procedure in most aspects, they do differ. You can find the rules and procedures for ReadiMUN in the drop down menu under 'Delegate Assistance'. We also remind delegates that in the spirit of learning about new countries and positions, delegates will not be allocated their home country, apologies for any issues that may cause.
