The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)
What Is It?The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) is one of the principal organs of the United Nations. It serves as a central platform for discussions on economic, social, and environmental issues in order to advance sustainable development. ECOSOC is responsible for promoting higher standards of living; encouraging cooperation in international cultural and education; addressing international economic, social and health-related issues; and fostering full employment, and economic and social progress. The UN Charter grants ECOSOC a consultative status to Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs). All decisions are taken on by a simple majority vote.
