The Reading University Model United Nations society is an all inclusive group, no experience necessary and are open to members and non members of the university alike. We hold weekly sessions on a Tuesday evening where we simulate different committees and recent topics that are being debated in the UN or across other regional organisations at the time.
If you would like to join the society, you can purchase membership here, or find out more about the society here.
The Reading delegation is highly active and well-known in the MUN arena. Founded in 2010 by just 6 members, we have rapidly expanded to well over 80 full members over the course of three years. The society’s first major academic year was 2010-2011 where we attended NottsMUN, LIMUN and NMUN in New York. Our first year was met with great success and we received multiple awards at NottsMUN as well as an honourable mention at NMUN in New York for the entire delegation (still small). For our efforts, we were awarded Best Society 2010/11 by Reading University’s Student Union.
The following two years saw our society further expand and gain increased recognition on the MUN scene. During this time we attended over 16 conferences, including three international trips, sweeping awards across the European continent (receiving three ‘Best Delegation’ awards) and forming strong ties with our friends in other societies around the world.
Other successes of our society have been the close collaboration with the University of Reading’s School of Politics, International Relations and Economics to create the UK’s first academically credited MUN module (PO2MUN). We also ran our first and highly successful conference at Reading (2012), attended by over 140 people from around the UK and Europe, including KU Leuven, University of Lucerne and Moscow State University.
Over the years since then, our society has attended RIMUN, OXIMUN, MUIMUN, SWMUN, WARMUN, UCLMUN, CardiffMUN and UKIMUN to name a few. In addition, we have hosted five successful annual conferences here in Reading. Our third conference (2014), in particular, won the Best Event of the Year by Reading University's Student Union, the year after winning Best Society for the second time in 2013/14, which we won again in 2016/17.
This year we are reaching for ever greater feats. We have a tightly packed schedule of conferences, meetings and other events, and are aiming to improve on the successes of last year’s conference with something even bigger and better!
